Treating Loose Teeth Is Important for Improved Oral Health
Posted on 10/20/2018 by Bryan Neu
When you are young, and you have loose teeth, it's exciting because that means you're growing up, but as an adult, a loose tooth can indicate more serious underlying conditions.
It is important you realize this doesn't mean the end of your tooth's life and we have many tools to help you keep it.
Something else to consider when you notice a loose tooth is to let us know right away so we can proceed with treatment as quickly as possible. The sooner that tooth is taken care of, the better it is for improved oral health.
What to Do If You Have a Loose Tooth
It is critical you do not pull a loose tooth out, even if you have suffered a blow to the face or mouth. Believe it or not, we can save a tooth even if it has fallen out. The critical thing is to come to the office as soon as you can. If a tooth is hanging by a thread, we also have the tools and knowledge to save it.
While you wait to see us, you should handle it as little as possible, eat soft foods, and keep the area clean to prevent an infection.
Treatment for Loose Teeth
There are a couple of options if you have a loose tooth from trauma.
Splinting - this is when we use a bonding material to bond the tooth to adjacent teeth
Implants - if the tooth cannot be saved, we can use implants, which function and look like natural teeth.
In cases where gum disease causes loose teeth, our dentist can do a deep cleaning. This is a procedure where the pockets of infection between the gums and tooth are cleaned, and the soft tissue from the gum is extended to cover the exposed part of the tooth.
When the gums heal, they adhere more tightly to the tooth. If you have a loose tooth treatment is very important for improved oral health. Please let us know as soon as possible.
