Crunchy Foods Can Leave Your Gums in Danger

Posted on 2/15/2019 by Bryan Neu
Crunchy Foods Can Leave Your Gums in DangerAlthough crunchy foods may taste great, there are many ways in which they can place your gums in danger. While some of this damage is obvious, much of it is less overt - ranging from cuts in your mouth to food sliding under your gum line.

This isn't to say that these foods can't be beneficial to your mouth because they can indeed be very beneficial in removing plaque-building bacteria. For instance, celery's rough, fibrous texture acts like Mother Nature's mouthwash by scrubbing away food particles in your mouth.

With this information in mind, it's obvious that you don't want to simply forego all these foods, but you must learn how to take care of your gums, so they don't get damaged.

The Proper Way to Eat Crunchy Food

After you're done eating crunchy food you should clean it out of your mouth by brushing your teeth. This will also help stimulate saliva. Your mouth needs this saliva contains important substances that not only helps with digestion, but also with strengthening your teeth. Failure to do so could result in tooth decay, gum disease, and bone loss - all things that will prevent you from eating crunchy foods again in the future.

Knowing When to Eat Crunchy Food
One of the greatest benefits of crunchy foods like carrots and apples is that when you eat them directly after a meal, they'll help scrub your teeth clean and stimulate the flow of saliva. Here once again, you hear about saliva's importance because it really is that critical to your mouth.

Knowing what to eat is just as important as knowing how to properly take care of your teeth. Fortunately, you don't have to be an expert in any of these things.
