A lot of people are afraid to go to the dentist. We get it. But we have found through our years of dental experience that once you know what to expect at a dental visit, we really aren't such bad people. We only want what is best for you and your mouth. This means that we have to start our dental journey together by checking your teeth and gums for problems, and then giving them a lovely cleaning so you can have the whitest and brightest smile possible. Still a little nervous? Here's what tooth cleaning is all about. The Dental ExamFirst, you will meet with our dental hygienist. They will first do a physical exam of your mouth, to see if there are any problems they will need to mention when you speak with our dentist. This could be something small, such as a canker sore on the side of your cheek. It could also be swollen gums as well. Once you clear the hurdle of the initial physical exam, the hygienist will scrape any plaque off your teeth to prepare them for cleaning. If you have been brushing and flossing regularly, this will take up far less time than if you haven't. Scraping your teeth for plaque sounds painful, but it really isn't. When your teeth have been scraped clean of plaque, they are then brushed with a special toothpaste. We may either use a round brush to do this, or a sanding tool with a baking soda mixture. We don't know about you, but this is our favorite part. We adore getting our teeth cleaned, because they won't be this clean again until the next time you visit. Your teeth are then expertly flossed and rinsed. Finally, we will sit and talk with you. We will fully check your mouth, and let you know if you are currently having problems with your mouth. If you do think you have a problem, now is a good time to mention it. We may also tell you if there is something you aren't doing correctly. For example, you may be brushing harder on one side of your mouth than the other. Dental Exams Are ImportantThat doesn't seem so bad, does it?
