Manual Vs. Electric Toothbrush - Which is Better?Electric toothbrushes are slowly but surely gaining popularity. In fact, you see an increasing number of electric toothbrushes on supermarket shelves. While many swear by the product, a significant number of others recommend sticking to a manual brush. Here, we put the two against each other to determine which is better.

Manual Toothbrush

Manual toothbrushes are one of the oldest known modern dental tools. They are pretty useful when it comes to cleaning the teeth and preventing plaque and tartar build-up, provided the user uses the brush properly and cleans their teeth thoroughly. If you are happy and comfortable with the performance of your manual toothbrush, stick to it. It is easily accessible and affordable, making it an ideal choice for many.

However, if you are tired of focusing on your movements and keeping track of how long you have to brush your teeth. You could, of course, keep a timer in the bathroom, or you could switch to an electric toothbrush with a timer.

Electric Toothbrush

According to research spanning over 11 years, people who use an electric toothbrush have healthier teeth and gums for longer. That alone is enough for us to draw a conclusion that using an electric toothbrush is better for your overall oral health. An electric toothbrush can provide about 6,000 to 30,000 oscillations per minute. Some brushes also offer the option to switch the oscillation to the other direction, which is extremely beneficial for the teeth and gums.

The main disadvantage of using an electric toothbrush is that not many enjoy or prefer the vibrating sensation in the mouth. They are also pricier than manual toothbrushes, which also limits their demand. However, if you can get past the vibrating feeling in the mouth, you can find some affordable electric toothbrushes.

Concluding Note

In a head-to-head comparison between manual and electric toothbrushes, electric toothbrush wins hands down in terms of performance, benefits, and functionality. However, it does lose points in terms of comfort and affordability. If you prefer the feel of a manual toothbrush. But if you want to preserve the health and appearance of your teeth and gums, consider switching to an electric toothbrush.
