Sometimes patients find themselves with an uncomfortable toothache or inflammation in their gums. These problems can cause a dull ache or a sharp pain that penetrates to the root of your tooth. When discomfort first starts, the best thing you can do is call our office to make an appointment so we can assess the situation and start treatment right away. However, sometimes we are unable to see you immediately. In those instances, we would recommend taking medicine to reduce the discomfort until we can see you in our office. Hang in there, we hope to see you soon. In the meantime, we have some advice for you.
What to Take to Reduce Tooth Pain
Anti-inflammatory medicines are used to help reduce discomfort. They are also used to lessen swelling and redness associated with inflammation. Even if the source of your dental pain is not related to inflammation, anti-inflammatory medicine can help reduce symptoms. We suggest patients take anti- inflammatory medicine to reduce dental discomfort only if they are safe for the patient to take. As with any medicine, it is important to read the label and decide if you want to take it. You might also call your local pharmacist for advice, and they might be able to tell you how anti-inflammatory medicine would cooperate with other medication you may be taking.
